Call for proposal for special issues

Revista de Economía Crítica (REC) (Journal of Critical Economics) (https://www.revistaeconomiacritica.org/index.php/rec/revista) is the flagship journal of the Spanish Asociación de Economía Crítica (Critical Economics Association) (http://www.asociacioneconomiacritica.org/). It has been published since 2003, and it releases original research articles in the broad field of the different schools of thought in critical, heterodox, and/or radical political economy.

The Editorial Board of the REC (https://www.revistaeconomiacritica.org/index.php/rec/about/editorialTeam) is considering publishing a new special issue, and to this end we are calling for proposals, both on topics and on guest editors.

The theme of the special issue is open. Ideally, our intention is to address issues that, on the one hand, have not already been dealt with in a special issue (or in several independent articles) previously published in the REC (please note that all articles published since its inception are in Open Access, at no cost to readers or authors, and permanently available on the journal's website: https://www. revistaeconomiacritica.org/) and, on the other hand, that they deal with cutting-edge topics, even at the multi- and inter- disciplinary intersections with other fields of study, and that they represent a radically heterodox and critical approach to issues of current relevance, always with a connection to Political Economy.

As for the more practical issues, we kindly remind you of some key aspects:

  • Proposals coordinated by guest editors from different disciplines, and from different countries and/or geographical areas will be particularly welcome, especially if they include scholars from universities in the global South.
  • The proposal should include a tentative title, a summary of the suggested topic and its relevance for heterodox/critical political economy, and a set of issues or questions that ideally could be addressed by the articles to be received for the special issue (please no more than 1000-1200 words in total, plus a maximum of 15 bibliographical references). In addition, it should include the name and academic position of all guest editors.
  • The special issue should include between 3 and 6 articles, plus an Introduction by the guest editors.
  • The articles to be included in the special issue can be written either in Spanish or in English.
  • Once the theme and the guest editors of the special issue have been selected, an open "Call for Papers" will be issued, with a deadline for receiving abstracts.
  • All submitted articles will be subject to the usual peer evaluation process established in the REC, and their final acceptance will depend on a positive result in the evaluation process.
  • This Call for Proposals for a special issue in the REC will remain open, in principle, until June 2024 (or until one proposal is selected). Its publication is expected in December 2025 or June 2026 issues.
  • Please send your special issue proposals by email to the Editor-in-Chief (Prof Jordi Roca, Universitat de Barcelona; jordiroca@ub.edu) with the subject "REC special issue proposal".
