Abstract

Uruguay has come a period of strong economic growth. However, this has not resolved the existing gender inequalities. This leads us to propose and discuss the relationship between the ways in which social reproduction and economic system are performed. This paper discusses this relationship from a gender perspective, considering the potential contribution that can be made by a national care system and how it could impact on the basis of social and gender inequalities and hence it could become essential for transforming growth in development.
