Abstract

In this paper we analyze the role played by the study of the causes and consequences of financial speculation in the training of economists. Following the methodology developed by T. S. Kuhn in his numerous works, we investigated university textbooks, a privileged tool to know the curriculum of the profession. Our research suggests that despite the bitter scientific and academic debate that took place throughout the 20th century, the Academy has been unable to integrate the analysis of speculative elements into the current economic paradigm.
