Abstract

The collapse of the economic model based on the brick and the urban development speculation −besides in the tourism−, in the context of the international crisis of the capitalism, has put on the table the problem of the savings banks. In this article the out-standing paper is revised that these peculiar financial institutions have come played in the financing of the real-estate boom of last decades in Spain. We believe that it is not possible to come to the heart of the matter without understanding the historical nature of a few fragmented economic and political oligarchies of provincial and local area, led by promoters and big owners of the rustic and urban soil, that have found in the savings banks a privileged form of financing for the turbid and particular business on which there has been based such a praised economic Spanish miracle.
