Abstract

This paper explores the determinants of part-time work, for it uses the Living Conditions Survey (2005-2008). We examine the joint effect of different worker characteristics, such as sex, age, marital status, presence of children in the household and educational level on the probability of working part-time. To do this, we use a multinomial logit model where taken as the reference category because they work full time, so we estimate the relative probability of working part time, being unemployed or being inactive. Finally exploiting panel data from the Survey of Living Conditions which provides information through the longitudinal transition matrix of the 4 work situations considered.
