Abstract

In recent years the motor industry has been radically transformed. The changes that have been taken place can be summarized in three aspects: globalization, internal reorganization and restructuring of the value chain. In this context of transformation, in the case of Spain, the production focused on low-end cars segment and the changes in labour regulation have created a production structure in which flexibility and costs reduction have become key elements in order to maintaining competitiveness in a market segment where the product price is a crucial variable. This article examines in the case of Spain the changes that have occurred in recent years in this industry and its impact on employment conditions and industrial relations model.
